Study Pneumatology with Dr. Ayars

Biblical Theology of the Holy Spirit

About the Course

This course studies the person and work of the Holy Spirit with particular emphasis on the Spirit’s work within metanarrative of scripture. The course, in the broadest sense, answers the question, “Who is the Holy Spirit and where does he fit into the story of the Bible?”

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. Understand & articulate the major themes of the Bible’s single story (i.e., new creation, the image of God, the Kingdom of God, etc.) and how the Holy Spirit fits into those themes and within that story.
  2. Understand & articulate the relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Law
  3. Understand & articulate the role of the Holy Spirit within the broader scriptural themes of new creation and the Kingdom of God
  4. Understand & articulate the uniqueness of the Holy Spirit as one of the three persons of the Trinity
  5. Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in revealing both sin and the sin nature in believers
  6. Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in revealing the people of God to the world
  7. Understand the role of the Holy Spirit in revealing the character of God
  8. Understand & articulate the source and target of the various biblical symbols for the Holy Spirit
  9. Understand & articulate the development of orthodox pneumatology as enshrined in the creeds and councils of Christianity
