In May of 2017, Rev. Kennedy Kirui, along with 19 others, graduated from Wesley Biblical Seminary. He was part of the first group of Shepherd Project graduates to receive his diploma. During Kennedy’s stay for commencement, on his first trip to the States, he continually thanked the supports of WBS for their investment of biblical and theological education in his life.
Kennedy dreamed of attending Wesley Biblical Seminary for nearly 15 years. Tragedy touched his life when his fiancé was killed in a car wreck in Kenya. Kennedy’s dream seemed dashed. However, when WBS launched the Shepherd Project in 2013, Kennedy seized the opportunity. He graduated with a Master of Arts in Christian Studies, pursuing his entire degree online.
Kennedy, a missionary pastor in Uganda, serves with the Africa Gospel Church. He is actively involved in evangelism, church-planting, and disciple-making with university students in Kampala. WBS’ course in Islam significantly contributed to his evangelistic ministry to Muslims.
Kennedy said that his education at WBS has grounded him in Scripture, theology, and church history in a way that provides a strong foundation for his ministry. “Studies at WBS are not just theoretical,” he said “but they focus on integrating learning into our daily lives and ministry. [WBS] is widening my understanding and sharpening my skills for ministry.”
Kennedy’s story represents one of many Christian leaders in the Shepherd Project. Each of these leaders is being equipped and educated to fulfill the Great Commission in their local contexts around the world.
