Content Overview
This course is an exposition of the book of Revelation as the capstone of the Scriptures. Special emphasis will be placed on Revelation’s literary genre and shape, theological themes, and various schools of interpretation.
Upon Successful Completion of the course, students will:
- Develop an understanding of the political, religious, and geographical background of the book of Revelation as well as the world of biblical apocalyptic literature.
- Understand the major themes of Revelation and the content of its literary sections.
- Understand and evaluate the various schools of interpretation of Revelation (e.g., preterist, idealist, progressive dispensationalist, classical dispensationalist)
- Develop a deeper appreciation for the cosmic dimensions of the personhood of Christ.
- Understand and explain the differences between a dispensational, pretribulation, and premillennial approaches to the book of Revelation.
- Understand the role of Revelation’s use of the Old Testament.
- Have a growing confidence in God’s plans for the future of the world and particularly the church.
