From the Wesley Biblical Seminary Office of Academic Affairs:

Wesley Biblical Seminary and the Lilias Trotter Center are proud to present Understanding Islam: Our Opportunity, April 21-22, on the campus of Wesley Biblical Seminary, 727 E. Northside Dr., Jackson, MS 39206. This conference is for Christian leaders and others interested in knowing more about Islam, being informed about what God is doing in the Muslim world, and witnessing to their Muslim neighbors.

Understanding Islam: Our Opportunity will help you understand who Mohammad was and why he is so beloved by Muslims. It will introduce you to the Qur’an and its importance in Islamic life. You will gain insight into the refugee crisis in the Middle East and you will be better prepared to reach out to Muslims with the love of Christ. There is no charge for this conference though donations toward defraying its expenses will be accepted.

The conference will conclude Friday evening with an exclusive showing of Many Beautiful Things (manybeautifulthings.com), featuring the voices of Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) and John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings). This movie is the challenging story of Lilias Trotter, a wealthy Victorian woman who gave up the opportunity to be “England’s greatest living artist” in order to give her life for the people of Algeria. For a full conference schedule, see below.

The Lilias Trotter Center (LTC, www.liliastrottercenter.org) is an organization that enables thoughtful Christian engagement with Muslims by bringing seasoned evangelical scholarship and discipleship to students and to practitioners serving among Muslims to equip them for informed, fruitful and enduring ministry.  The LTC staff is well qualified by both academic attainment and experience. This semester LTC has been offering a course entitled Islamic Foundations: A Christian Examination of Islam’s Source Documents as part of Wesley Biblical Seminary’s online program. Students have found this course very enriching. LTC also offers a number of other helpful courses on Islam in a variety of formats.
