Converting GMC Course of Study to a Master’s Degree

As a GMC Course of Study student, all of your WBS courses with a grade of “C” or higher can be converted for credit toward a Master’s degree, giving you the advantage of a fully accredited degree on your resume and a head start on further theological education.

Steps for Conversion

  1. Complete an application to the Master’s degree program of your choice.
  2. Contact the finance office and pay the conversion fee of $875 per course. This can be done all at once or gradually over time until you are ready to graduate with the degree.
  3. The registrar will be notified after you pay the fee to transfer the course on your transcript. Contact the registrar with any questions about course status.
  4. Continue taking any additional courses needed to complete the Master’s program. You will now be registering as a graduate student rather than through the Course of Study. The cost per 3-credit-hour course after our standard GMC scholarship is $1,100.

Suggested Scenarios

  • Joe is a GMC Deacon who has completed all ten classes through the Course of Study with a “C” or above. He pays the conversion fee for these classes, takes two additional courses, and graduates with the Master of Ministry degree.
  • Susan is a GMC candidate for Elder who has completed 15 of her 20 classes for the Course of Study with a “C” or above. She pays the conversion fees for these classes over the next two years (a total of $13,125) and takes the remaining 5 classes required for her ordination as a Master’s student, plus an additional 19 credit hours of courses, and graduates with the Master of Divinity degree.

These are simply two possible scenarios.
