Discipleship and Spiritual Formation

Dr. Matt Friedeman will be teaching Discipleship and Spiritual Formation hosted at the Institute on Religion and Democracy.

This course will be a series of intensives across three weekends: Sept. 16-17, Sept. 23-24, Sept. 30-Oct 1.

The courses can be taken for credit or taken as an audit. These courses are available on-site in Washington, DC, or live via Zoom. Recordings of each lecture will be made available to all participants.

Course Professor

Dr. Matt Friedeman brings a multi-faceted ministry to his teaching at Wesley where he has served since 1987. He has authored books on evangelism, discipleship, and methods of Bible study. He has written a regular newspaper column and been a talk-show host on American Family Radio. Dr. Friedeman regularly leads students in various types of outreach, such as prison ministry and ministry to the unborn. Matt is an ordained Nazarene minister who serves as the founding pastor of Day Spring Community Church in Clinton, Mississippi. He and his wife, Mary, have six children.

Course Content

This course covers the biblical, theoretical, and practical information you need to grow deeper in your faith and to help other people do the same. You will examine the personal means of grace necessary for a dynamic Christian walk with the Lord and how to incorporate the imperative to “make disciples” into local church ministry and the nuclear family. In this course you will learn:

  • How to successfully develop a plan for your personal spiritual growth
  • Biblical insight into discipleship
  • The key components of discipleship
  • An effective and reproducible plan for making disciples
  • How to cultivate a healthy personal spiritual life to lead your family well
  • And much more!

By the end of this course, you will have a clear, actionable plan to grow in your faith and make disciples. Regardless of your background or experience, you will have the tools, concepts, and techniques to become a discipleship multiplier in your life.
