Dr. Matt Friedeman has been named the John M. Case Professor of Evangelical Studies. He is the first professor in the history of Wesley Biblical Seminary to be named to an endowed chair.

“We are excited to recognize Matt in this way. He has given his life to the mission of Wesley Biblical Seminary,” said Dr. John Neihof. “Matt embodies and teaches a passion for evangelism. We anticipate that WBS will have a growing influence in evangelical studies through this endowed chair.”

Dr. Friedeman has taught at WBS for thirty-two years. Before being named to his current position, he served as the Professor of Evangelism and Discipleship. During his time at WBS, Dr. Friedeman has published numerous books, including Discipleship in the Home and Lifechanging Bible Study.

“I am excited about this opportunity to carry on the legacy of John Case through teaching pastors and Christian leaders,” Dr. Friedeman said. “This seminary has a history of raising up pastors and missionaries who passionately and effectively proclaim the gospel. I’m honored to be part of what God is doing at WBS.”

The endowed chair has been named for a longtime Methodist minister, Dr. John Case. Dr. Friedeman shares several personal connections with the Case family. He served as an associate pastor at Wells Church, the church where Dr. Case grew up. He also led a Sunday School class and small group at Christ United Methodist Church during Dr. Case’s tenure as pastor.

“Dr. Case grew every church he led,” Dr. Friedeman said. “He did it through creating evangelistic congregations. I am honored to continue training pastors and Christian leaders to do the same thing.”
