For the Summer 2016 Extended Edition of the WBS Compass, we interviewed John Rinehimer (MA ’06) about his ministry.
“Upon graduating from WBS, my wife Erica and I moved to Uganda. With fellow WBS alumni Billy and Joanna Coppedge, we helped establish and train 14 indigenous pastors to plant reproducing churches in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan. I then joined the staff of 25,000+ member Southeast Christian Church (Louisville, Kentucky), as a small groups pastor. It was there that I began to realize God had placed a call on my life to preach. God soon opened a door for me to become a campus pastor at Community Christian Church, an innovative multisite church in Chicago. Our mission statement is: Helping People Find Their Way Back to God. We believe God creates a longing deep in every human heart to come back home to their Heavenly Father. One illustration
of this happened recently. Parents of children who had been attending Community with their grandparents came to watch the kids sing on stage one Sunday. During that service, God began a spiritual awakening in their hearts. That family has received Christ, actively serves, and are now bringing their friends to church as well. What a joy and a privilege it is to partner with the living Jesus in restoring his dream for the world and fulfilling the Great Commission.”
